Corn, Oklahoma: German Feast and Auction, February.  An authentic German-Mennonite noon meal will be served followed by an auction of handmade quilts, wood crafts, toys, afghans and wall hangings. 11 am to 7 pm.  Contact: Charles Regier, cregier@cornbible.org

Waynoka, Oklahoma: Mayfest at Cafe Bahnhof, May.  Umpah band, may wreath, pretzel, maybock beer.

Amish Farms:  You and your group can get a wonderful home-cooked meal there and have the family speak only German (their own dialect).

Choctaw Area

Old Germany Restaurant: Located in Choctaw, 15920 SE 29th Street. Take I-40 to Choctaw exit, 3 miles North on Choctaw Road to 29th Street, 1 mile East on 29th. Muskogee Area

Camp Gruber: Camp Gruber is located South of Muskogee on Highway 10.  During World War II some German prisoners of war were located here.  They created 7 small monuments, two of which are especially interesting, because they are replicas of the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin and the Völkerschlachtsdenkmal close to Leipzig. The monuments are in disrepair, but they are being restored and will be displayed on a platform close to the main entrance of the camp.

Omniplex: Berlin Wall exhibit at the Omniplex with presentation and materials on Berlin.  The Omniplex is located just West of the Oklahoma City Zoo.  Take I-44 to Martin Luther King exit or I-35 to 50th Street (North) exit.  Hours: Tue-Fri 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.  General admission is $2.75 for groups of 10 students or more.  Advanced registration is necessary for groups.  See their website for more info, www.omniplex.org.

Tulsa Area

Margaret's German Restaurant and Deli:
Located in Tulsa at the The Farm Shopping Center on the southeast corner of 51st and Sheridan (take Sheridan exit from I-44 and go South). Margaret's has lunch and dinner, for details click on menu.  You can also buy some German food items there: bread, cheese, lunchmeat, coffee, chocolate (Mozart Kugeln!), etc.  Hours are Monday-Thursday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Friday - Saturday 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, closed on Sunday.  You can get special prices for groups. Siegi's Sausage Factory: Located in Tulsa at the Northwest corner of 91st and Sheridan, 8988 S. Sheridan in the Chimney Pointe Shopping Center.  Siegi will let groups come to watch him make sausage. They serve Deli Sandwiches for $3.45 to $4.75 and sausage plate lunches (Bratwurst etc.) for $4.75.  Right now they can seat 20, but they will move next door in March and will be able to seat more after that.  In the store part they sell fresh German meats (Bratwurst, Wiener, Jagdwurst, Schinkenwurst, Kassler etc.), German bread, chocolates and some other goods. This is in the Southern part of Tulsa.  Coming from the West, I went there by going South on Highway 75 to the Creek Turnpike (Highway 169), Exit on Yale, one block North to 91st and one block East to Sheridan. Bus parking might be a problem, the shopping center parking lot is not very big. Hours are Tues - Fri 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, closed Sunday and Monday.  Phone (918) 492-8988, website: http://www.siegis.com.

Oxley Nature Center in Mohawk Park: One of our colleagues, Tom Clark, volunteers there and will lead a group on a nature hike in German. Mohawk Park is located in Northern Tulsa at 5223 E 41st Street, next to the Tulsa Zoo off of 36th Street. It can be reached going North on Highway 75, Exit onto Highway 11 (Gillcrease Expressway), take Yale Exit and go North to 36th Street. Tom Clark can be reached at thclark@ionet.net.

GAST (German-American Society of Tulsa): They have a wonderful folk-dance group that likes to teach students a few dances. Phone: (918) 744-6998
